Book 3 and 4: The Pelican Brief (over 400 pgs)

The theme of this book is like any other Grisham book, but involves the assassination of two supreme court justices, who were in a gay porn cinema. Darby Shaw decides to research the past of these two justices and is a very curious person.

The main character is Darby, who eventually goes on run because she is scared she is going to be chased next. Darby then contacts the Washington Post for help to prove her story true. Darby is the point of view in this story.

I think this book is somewhat connected to another Grisham book called, The Firm, because a lawyer in that book is on the run similar to Darby.

1 Half of Junior Year Over

Well the winter has sure kicked in Batesville. I'm just ready for this semester test week to be over, get out of school on Thursday and spend time with all my friends and family. Now it's time to study for all my tests, and try to get my gpa before report cards.

Lately I've been chilling with Dylan a bunch, and with Bailey. I'm pretty surprised the first half of this year went by so fast, but I cant complain about that. I hope it snows next week so I can go riding around on 4 wheelers, and sledding and what not. I think some of my best memories in high school will be from snow days.

I think the second nine weeks of school went by way quicker than the first half. I guess after thanksgiving break, time goes in fast forward for awhile and its hard to keep on task and get what needs to be done, done.

Book 1: The Appeal (worth 2 books)

The theme of this book is definitely perseverance and keeping your head up when trouble comes along. Wes and Mary Grace Payton have battled Krane chemical to their last dollar. The news of the appeal by Carl Trudeau is troubling to the family and all their troubles.

I enjoy the style of John Grisham because the book is told from both sides of the story. From parties in Carl Trudeau attends, and from the troubled life of Jeannette Baker and her losses.

The characters are the duo of lawyers, Wes and Mary Grace Payton, the struggle of Jennette Baker, and the rich, wealthy life style of Carl Trudeau, and his lifestyle, the book shows you how all the characters live.

POEM

Only if I could fly,
Although I might go too high,
Every time I would go up,
By the time I would come down,
I wish I could fly.

Whether or not by dreams or possible,
Until new technology is discovered,
When the ideas become uncovered,
In case the sky's would lightning and thunder,
I hope people start exploring.

Assertion/Claim:

  • The Southeastern Conference is the strongest football conference.
Evidence/ Concrete detail:

Commentary 1: A team from the SEC has won the last 4 BCS National Championship games.
  • That means the other conferences that compete with the SEC are the opponent, and the SEC will always have a stronger league and win this game.
  • Many people think the the SEC Championship might as well be the National Championship because no other team can beat the SEC champion
Commentary 2: The SEC is very competitive from top to bottom.
  • The weaker teams in the SEC may look bad on paper because of there bad records, but are strong teams.
  • There is not a bye week in the SEC because every team has a chance to take down any team, so the top teams of the SEC lose quite often. Rarely will a team to go undefeated in the SEC, although Auburn did it this year.
Opposing Claims/They say:
  • Some other conferences feel like the SEC has an unfair advantage because they win the most overall sports national championships, they get all the best recruits.
My Rebuttal/ I say:
Although the SEC wins many National Championships, they are fifth overall to other major conferences in overall sports. Many other teams are successful in many other sports, so to say that is invalid.

Source:
My Thinking:
I like to think my paragraph has both inductive and deductive reasoning. This is because my paragraph contains many facts that cannot be argued so that means that the paragraph contains deductive. It also contains inductive because some of the points I argue are not exactly facts, so that is inductive reasoning.

Paragraph:
College football has been very competitive and has drawn football fans from everywhere the past few years but one conference is in a league of it's own. The SEC has won the las 4 BCS National Championships. That means the other conferences that compete with the SEC are the opponent, and the SEC will always have a stronger league and win this game. Many people think the the SEC Championship might as well be the National Championship because no other team can beat the SEC champion. The SEC is not only nationally dominant, but is competitive from top to bottom. The weaker teams in the SEC may look bad on paper because of there bad records, but are strong teams. There is not a bye week in the SEC because every team has a chance to take down any team, so the top teams of the SEC lose quite often. Rarely team to go undefeated in the SEC, although Auburn ran the table this year. Some other conferences feel like the SEC has an unfair advantage because they win the most overall sports national championships, they get all the best recruits. Although the SEC wins many National Championships, they are fifth overall to other major conferences in overall sports. Many other teams are successful in many other sports, so to say that is invalid.

Homecoming Week

Well this week was homecoming week, but there was no dance Friday after the game.

This week was still spirit week and stuff but there will be no dance this weekend, which is weird.

I think the dance should at least be on the same week as the homecoming game, and spirit week

The "Fall Formal" will be a week from Saturday. I don' t know if I will go. I think that we should just have the traditional "homecoming dance" and not change the dance like this.

Bullying

When I was younger, I was always the smallest kid in my class. One day one of the older kids picked on me, but after he cooled off he apologised. Bullying is when a person that is more power full than someone, whether it's physically or verbally, picks on the weaker one. Bullying is very easy to identify and needs to be stopped. People are bullied everyday. With the help of punishment and discipline, bullying can be stopped. Bullying can be done in more than one way, verbal and physical. It needs to be stopped.

My Antonia

Well, I honestly didnt read much of this book but ill try to write a book review.

The tone of this book was struggle and going through hard times. Antonia had just moved from another country and has trouble adjusting.

Her family was succesfull in Bolivia and when they come to America, it was a whole different story.

The main characters were Jim Burden, Antonia and her family, and Jims grandparents.
.
Even though i didnt finish, i would recomend this book because its really easy to read, and is written on an easier reading level

First nine weeks of Junior Year

Well I guess you could say I've had a decent first nine weeks of my junior year. I had a lot of fun on the golf team, even though we didn't do as good as I expected. School is going okay, just getting used to a lot faster pace of work! I like some of my classes, and dislike some but i guess its always like that in every grade. My grades are going to be the worst they've ever been so I'm sure i'll be hearing a lot of that from my parents. I'm ready for the weather to get colder, and for some snow days!

4 paragraphs

I guess you could say it has been a very up and down time for my family and I. As most of you all know my wife, Amy, was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. It is nothing short of a miracle that I am standing here today, with this Master's trophy. Golf has not been the only thing on my mind this week, and Amy was on my mind every shot. Walking up the eighteenth hole, the tears began to fall down my face. With the support of so many people, and great doctors I have been able to get back into golf, knowing that my wife will be alright. Amy, fighting this battle with cancer, is recovering on time and is doing well.

Many Americans show respect for the environment in various ways, but at the same time a large number of American people show much disrespect. One way the American people show respect is by recycling and “thinking green”. Whether it is recycling your newspaper everyday, or car pulling to school, little changes like these can make a word of difference. The average person is not so good to the environment. Littering is a big problem that not only looks bad, but can also have some costly effects on our environment in the long run. Cleaning up litter is very costly for our country,(totalling 11 billion dollars a year), and is also breeding ground for many disease causing insects. Americans, as a whole, are not doing enough and really need to improve.

I learned very many interesting facts at UACCB's carer day. The first session I attended was roboticts, and learned that there is a high job demand in that field because companys are trying to eliminate people from factories, and replace them with robots. Although it would be fun, operating a robot, I don't see roboticts as a career for me. The next session I attended was about becoming a lawyer. Becoming a lawyer would be a lot of hard work, but would be a very rewarding job. Being a lawyer, causing me to work hard, wouldn't be easy. I think it would be tough to get into law school, and I would have to work very hard in college. UACCB's career day was very helpfull and fun, and I feel like I learned very much helpful information.

Antonia is considered a "mother earth" archeotype because of how hard working of a person she is. I like to think of mother earth as a hard working person, but at the same time there is bad luck. Antonia is a hard worker, but at the same time she knows her place. She worked very hard, even if she was

Book 2: The Client(over 400 pages)

The second book I read this year was The Client by John Grishham. This is one of the better books i've read, mainly because I'm a big John Grishham.

In my opinion, the theme of this book is that although you may know the truth about an important topic, its important to be safe about who you tell.

The main characters are Mark, Ricky, and Dianne Sway. Mark is the older brother who knows some vital information on a murder. Ricky is in the hospital the whole time in and out of a comma, after witnessing the suicide of another important character, Romey.

I will say this book is written very similar to many of John Grishhams other novels, as a connection, but is very suspenceful and leaves you guessing.
The Client is a great book and I highly recomend it to anybody. It kept me turning the pages, and I could hardly put it down.

Book 1: Scar Tissue(over 400 pages)

The first book I read this year was Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis, and it was great.

The tone of this book is struggle and perseverance. Anthony had a long life struggle with drugs, and many other issues and in his life.

The main character is Anthony of course, but some other big parts in his life are his father, Flea, John and Chad. Many of these were later his band mates and also good friends.

The plot, although it is an autobiography, is a very up and down plot. Anthony is in and out of drug binges his whole life, and has much trouble resisting the temptation.

This is a great book, and is very up and down and always keeps you wondering what will happen next. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Semester Test!

From gang fights, to love scenes West Side Story is a musical about two gangs. There are the two gangs who fight for the control of the streets of Los Angeles: the Sharks and the Jets. This is a great story about a couple falling in love, who probably are not supposed to be together.

Maria is the younger sister of the leader of the Shark's leader, Bernardo. One night Tony, who is somewhat of a Jet, and is best friends to the leader of the Jets, is at a dance and see's Maria. The immediately fall in love, but know they cannot be together. Meanwhile, the Jets and Sharks are planning a big rumble to see who will be number one. Tony does not go to this rumble, but Maria wants it to end, so he goes in her honor. When he gets there he sees that his best friend, Riff has been killed by Bernardo. He is super mad, so he kills Bernardo, immediately regretting this mistake. Maria forgives him because she knows it wasn't intended to hurt her or anything. The couple decides they should probably leave the city, and plan to meet at a candy story. Anita, whom Maria told to tell Tony that she will be a little late, tells the Jets that Maria had been murdered by Chino. Somehow someone hears this false news and tells Tony. Tony goes running around looking for Chino, so he can kill him. Then, he runs into Maria and they are so happy they found eachother, then BOOM. Chino shoots Tony and Maria is devastated that her lover is gone.
I like West Side story, because in my opinion it is the funnest Musical to watch. I get bored with Fiddler on the Roof or Sound of Music, but West Side Story kept me interested the whole time.
I liked this musical because of how easy it was to watch, and how similar it was to Romeo and Juliet.
Overall, West Side Story is a great movie, even though there is not a happy ending. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Acceptance Speech

Wow! I honestly have no idea where to begin. Never in my life did I expect to recieve such an extraordinary award and I am just blown away. I have so many people to thank, but in particular I would like to thank my family, friends, and NASA. If all of these special people weren't in my life then I would not be here today accepting my Nobel Peace Prize.

My family has always been a big part in my life, and have supported me through thick and thin. Sure, my ideas may be a little impossible to believe, but my family has always been my number my number one support group and I wouldn't be standing up here today if it wasn't for my them.

Another big support in my life is my friends. After a long day in the lab, I can always count on my friends to be there for me just to hang out and get my mind off things. Many of my closest friends are also my lab partners who work with me and I owe all my close friends a big thank you.

Space travel has been very important for me, in my transporting people to Mars, and NASA has helped me out big time. Now that we reolize that Mars is identical to the Earth, we will not have to live on suuch a dangerous plannet. I remember growing up as a kid and people would say that global warming was such a big deal, little did they know Mars has an ozone layer equivelent to planet Earths in it's hay day. NASA has been a big part in my discovery, from providing places to study, and travel throughout outerspace. Life on other planets would not be possible without the help or NASA.

I'm proud to anounce, I have created a ten year evacuation plan, to get away from this dangerous plannet. Life on Mars will not be anydifferent than life here on Earth. With the Earth about to explode in 11 years, we will all be safe because of my family, my friends, and most of all NASA. Thank you.

Final Blog

Even though this isn't even going to be my "final blog", im still going to call it that. This school year has been pretty solid so far and theres only a month left so it should go pretty fast. For some reaason this year my A days were a lot funner than my B days. I always hate waking up for A days. Im super jealous of this guy in this class with a sweet beard. Now I imagine myself myself with a beard, because i'd look like a hobbit. Cliff would look nice with a beard, kindof like Kimbo Slice. I cant really imagine Talan with a beard, but if he did he'd like Jasan Worth. He's on my fantacy baseball team, which im domminating the legue. Well its been been a good not so final blog

He is super mad so he kills Bernardo, who is his lovers brother. Then, Tony is runnning all over the playground looking for Chino to kill him, but he gets shot and dies in Maria's arms.

Man drives to a school and comes into a class and nods at a man to say hello. While sitting in the desk, he and the other guy begin comparing what the have and he pulls out a whole lot more pens, and pencils and other objects. The teacher tells them to begin their test and he looks at it and shakes his head because he probably doesnt know the material. He then sneezes very loudly and wipes his snot in his pocket. He falls asleep and wakes himself up. He falls asleep again and ends up on his knees in the floor but wakes himself up again. Everywhere he goes in his car he gets in a little wreck but keeps driving.

The second part starts by him walking down the street and comes across a saxaphone player. He has money but doesn't want to give him the dollar bill he has so he's trying to get change. Too Much Homework!

How much homework do you do a night? Well, it's probably too much, and studies show that there are very few advantages to this. It needs to end. Students, the recievers show that there are few advantages to all of this homework from their teachers, the senders Students that do a lot of homework are shown to have lower scores on standardized test than those who only do some, countries that are smarter then the U.S on achievement test assign much less homework that teachers in America, and homework can even lower students grades.

With grade inflation being a major problem, colleges are upping the value of ACT scores and other standardized tests as a symbol as to how smart a student is. Since students are getting tired of doing all the homework, they are just doing the homework to get it done, and are not learning the concept. This will cause low scores on standardized test, and can lower the value of a high school education.

If countries like Japan and China are giving their students less homework, why does the U.S pile it on. Theses countries have shown they are much smarter that us on achivement test. This shown there is no proof that homework helps students learn.

Studies have also shown another very suprizing statistic that is raising some noise: In some cases the more homework a student gets, the lower the grade is. This is because the students are copying off eachother on all these long asignments or a just finding a way to get the answers. When the teacher gives the test out, the students are lost because they have learned nothing by the long homework assignments and this causes grades to go down even more.

If teachers keep giving more and more homework American eduacation will keep falling and falling. Studies have proven these statements, and the teachers need to wake up and listen to this feedback. With more and more homework, ACT scores are dropping, other countries, superior in education to the U.S assign much less homework, and the more homework teachers give out, the lower the test grades.

Banning Ipods

Who and What- Many school officials all over the nation are banning ipods from school to prevent cheating.

When and Where- Schools are banning students from having ipods at school to prevent cheating on tests because the students will sneak them during the test to get answers.

Why- Since cell phones have been banned, the students needed a new way to cheat on test.

My opinion: I think its fine to bann ipods during test or even school hours but I think a solution should be the teachers take the ipods before tests. I think the studnents should be able to have their ipods at school, but if they get caught using them for the wrong reason should get them taken up or some other punishment.

EARTHQUAKE: Recently, there has been a massive earthquake in Chile causing many problems in this country. The number one problem is looters which are people who steal things from stores around the city trying to survive. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100301/ap_on_re_eu/eu_france_deadly_storm

GLOBAL WARMING: Global Warming is another issue we face today. People think since, we have had these bad winters and all this snow, oh theres no global warming. What people don't realize is that theses are products of global warming and that it is a big issue. http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20100228/ts_csm/283713

EUROPEAN STORM: Several countries in Europe were recently effected by a huge storm. This storm has left many sea walls down which could eventually be a problem. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100301/ap_on_re_eu/eu_france_deadly_storm

3 SIMILARITIES: All three of theses involve possible death, the climate, and weather.

MOST IMPORTANT: The most important issue to me is global warming because of the long term effects it could have on earth. Much ice could melt, causing massive floods all over the world.
